End of mystery! Less than a week after the anaconda Ana Júlia, the most famous snake in the world, was found dead in Bonito, southwest of Mato Grosso do Sul, the state’s Scientific Police discovered that the snake died of natural causes. The information was obtained exclusively by g1.

“Our main objective was to characterize whether or not the snake was killed violently by a gunshot or even if it had some blunt injuries that justified its death”, pointed out the director of the Scientific Police of Mato Grosso do South, Emerson Lopes dos Reis.

He explained that at the site the veterinary expert did not find any injuries on the animal consistent with gunshots, but that she still decided to bring the snake to Campo Grande to carry out additional examinations.

“She carried out other tests, such as x-ray images, so that she could be sure that this animal had not suffered any type of gunshot,” he detailed.

“We carried out radiographic examinations, we did not find any fracture in the head region, which was initially suspected of having been injured and we ruled out the hypothesis of a violent death… Since the animal did not die a violent death, it therefore remained a death as a result of a pathology or some issue specific to the animal where it lives, without human interference in the death of that animal”, explained expert Maristela Melo de Oliveira.

The expert also revealed that she took advantage of the exam to measure the animal, which reached 6 meters and 36 centimeters, and also to collect DNA for genetic sequencing and other biological materials. “We collected this material in order to preserve it, for scientific interest and studies related to the genetics of this animal”, said Maristela.
