Ornaldo’s death was caused by Fernando Sastre de Andrade Filho, a civil engineer graduated from Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie. At the time of the accident, Fernando was accompanied by Marcus Vinicius Machado Rocha, 22 years old, in a vehicle valued at more than R$1.3 million.
The driver is the son of Fernando Sastre de Andrade, owner of real estate companies, and Daniela Cristina De Medeiros Andrade. According to witnesses, the couple was at the scene of the accident shortly after the crash, and removed the engineer from the situation, claiming to take him for medical care at Hospital São Luiz.
According to the Public Security Secretariat, when the agents went to the hospital to perform a breathalyzer test on the driver and collect his version of the accident, they were informed that he was never admitted to the scene. After 38 hours, Fernando Andrade Filho presented himself to the police in the presence of lawyers, who stated that he was in a “state of shock”.
Andrade Filho is being investigated for “culpable homicide and negligent bodily harm while driving a motor vehicle, in addition to fleeing the scene of the accident.” The Civil Police have already requested Fernando’s temporary arrest and are awaiting a response from the Judiciary. The SSP said that it “will analyze the dynamics of the incident” to investigate possible errors that allowed the suspect to escape.
