The rental market in Portugal recorded a 2% increase in house prices in the first quarter of this year compared to the previous quarter. According to the idealista price index, the average cost of renting a house reached 15.8 euros per square meter (euros/m²) by the end of March.
The survey reveals that prices rose significantly in some regions of the country, with Braga leading the ranking with an increase of 6.9%, followed by Santarém with 6.3%. However, at a national level, prices remained stable over the last month.
Lisbon remains the most expensive city for rent, with an average cost of 21.5 euros/m², Porto with 17.1 euros/m². On the other hand, the most affordable cities to rent are Castelo Branco, with 6.8 euros/m² and Santarém, with 7.9 euros/m².
Analysis by districts and regions reveals a disparity in prices, with Lisbon leading as the most expensive district (19.6 euros/m²), while Portalegre has the cheapest prices (5.8 euros/m²).
According to real estate experts, rental prices will not remain at these values.
