“The Agency informs that the company and the vehicle are not qualified for interstate passenger transport services. Furthermore, the bus has expired its Vehicle Safety Certificate (CSV). Therefore, the trip is considered irregular.”

In total, the vehicle was carrying 54 people and overturned in a place known as “death curve” last Saturday night (27). The bus was heading from Pernambuco to São Paulo.

O g1 contacted the company by email, but had not yet received a response until the most recent update of this article.

ANTT also highlighted that procedures are opened to verify safety conditions when companies that have authorization from the agency are involved in accidents.

The director of the Santa Rita hospital, in Medina, Keila Alves Sampaio, informed the g1 that 16 people were admitted to the unit. Three remain hospitalized and their health status is considered stable, with one of the victims awaiting transfer. Eleven people, including children and adults, have already been discharged and two other women, aged 14 and 25, who were in a more serious condition were transferred to Santa Rosália hospital, in Teófilo Otoni. The unit has not yet released their health status.

“The victims who were discharged left yesterday [domingo] and slept in a shelter provided by the Social Service sector of Medina City Hall. The hospital, in partnership with the municipality, carried out a campaign and collected clothes, blankets, sandals and other objects for these victims”, said the director.

The management of the Vale do Jequitinhonha hospital in Itaobim clarified that nine people remain hospitalized and are stable.

The bodies of the victims have already been identified and released from the Almenara Legal Medical Institute.

The trip, which would have lasted a total of 34 hours, was interrupted 17 hours after boarding in the city of Caruaru, in Pernambuco.

The PRF reported that the driver of the vehicle lost control of the steering wheel, hit a protective wall on the side of the road, hit the shoulder and fell onto the road.

There were victims trapped in the wreckage, but the police did not say how many people.

A witness informed the g1 that there were adults and children in the vehicle, and that some people were moving to São Paulo.

For this reason, there were animals in the collective’s luggage compartment, such as cats and chickens, as well as a dog that ended up dying. The box that transported the animal was left lying on the side of the highway.

Other belongings such as baby bottles and a family photo are also among the objects found on the side of the highway.

Firefighters washed the runway after the forensic work.

O g1 requested a position from the National Land Transport Agency (ANTT) and is awaiting feedback. The company responsible for the bus was also contacted and did not respond.
