With a varied and comprehensive program, the Viseu International Spring Music Festival (FIMPViseu) will take place, from the 2nd to the 20th of April, through emblematic places in the city such as the Grão Vasco National Museum, the Viriato Theater, the Aula Magna of the Polytechnic of Viseu, the Misericórdia Church, the Emídio Navarro Secondary School Auditorium and the Multipurpose Pavilion.

Organized by PROVISEU/Conservatório Regional de Música Dr. José de Azeredo Perdigão and the municipality of Viseu, the Festival begins with the Orquestra Portuguesa de Guitarras e Mandolins, and the final point of the 20 scheduled concerts will be with the masterpiece by G Mahler, Symphony No. 2 “Ressurreição”, performed by the Portuguese Philharmonic Orchestra, soloists and 2 Choirs.

In addition to the concerts, the festival also promotes social inclusion through Pedagogical Concerts, reaching different audiences and promoting art as a form of expression and transformation. Masterclasses offer an opportunity for students and professionals to develop their knowledge and be inspired by the teachings of internationally renowned teachers.

Also noteworthy is the 6th Viseu International Guitar Competition. With 27 competitors, from 14 countries, «it is an important launching pad for young talents, promoting musical excellence, and providing magical moments for the public. Don’t miss the final test of this competition, which will take place on April 6th at Teatro Viriato», highlights José Carlos Sousa, artistic director.

Appealing to everyone’s participation and involvement, the professor leaves the message: «In an international context of war and destruction, I would like to remember the wise words of Martin Luther King Jr. “Music is the medicine of the soul, capable of healing emotional wounds and transform lives. It has the power to unite, inspire and promote peace.”»
