Brazilian driver was awarded the Golden Helmet, considered the Oscar of motorsport, for excellent performance in 2023

Highlight on the scene off-road in 2023, having won the second championship in Sertões Rallyin addition to the unprecedented Brazilian podium in its debut in the Dakar international competition, Lucas Moraes won the second time Golden Helmet, the Oscar of motorsport, in the 27th edition of the biggest national motorsport award. Defending the TOYOTA GAZOO Racingthe pilot received the award alongside his partner, the navigator Kaique Bentivoglio.

“Receiving an award like this for the second time, competing with so many high-level pairs, is something sensational. It makes us look back and think that all the struggle, all the days away from our family, and the hardship we endured each day in the deserts were really worth it. I thank everyone who voted for us in this edition of the Golden Helmet”said the pilot.

In 2016, the pilot was among the three finalists for the award, which had a different award formula than the current one, guaranteeing the Bronze Helmet, in 2016, and, in 2017, in the “National” category.

Lucas Moraes caught international attention on his debut in Dakar in 2023 by achieving an unprecedented podium for Brazil in the competition, placing third and as the best “rookie” in history.

In this year’s competition, Lucas reached the end competing for runner-up, until a car breakdown took him out of the fight. However, he recorded another historic milestone for the country by becoming the first Brazilian to win a Dakar stage in the general classification.

“One of the abilities to compete in rallies comes from our strength and mental preparation. For example, in a Dakar, you are pushed to the limit. In the World Cup stages, which I am competing in, we are also pushed to the limit. We subject ourselves to all of this because we love the sport. But, at other times, seeing that your work is recognized, your effort has received people’s attention, makes it all worth it”added Lucas.
