The DPD barometer analyzes the evolution of the online commerce market in 2023 and indicates that 71% of Portuguese people made purchases digitally last year.

Three out of four Portuguese people (76%) who shop online consider price to be the most important factor when deciding to purchase a product, according to DPD’s ‘e-Shopper 2023’ barometer. Every year, the delivery company analyzes the Portuguese market (buyers and sellers) in comparison with European markets and publishes conclusions in a report.

DPD, which has an international parcel delivery service, released data this Wednesday that allows it to take stock of the Portuguese market and compare it to European markets.

The responses collected indicate that more people are buying products digitally than in the past (71% in 2023, compared to 66% in 2022), and those who buy more regularly seem to have a high level of satisfaction.

The so-called e-shoppers Regulars are increasingly satisfied with orders placed online, considering this a more relaxed way of purchasing than in physical stores. Among them, 85% consider that their last purchase online it was simple, which represents an advantage compared to the European average (71%).

At the same time, a third of regular buyers surveyed during the study indicate that in 2023 they purchased more second-hand products than in the previous year. From the same group of e-shoppers regular customers, almost half (48%) of those who buy on C2C platforms, with an average of eleven purchases per year (three more than European consumers).

Furthermore, here too the price plays a determining role, as saving money is the most common objective among Portuguese people who use those platforms.

Speaking to Jornal Económico, the CEO of DPD Portugal, Olivier Establet, made a positive assessment of the data collected and highlighted the good prospects for the e-commerce in 2024, as the sector “should experience significant growth”.

The study involved a total of 24,233 interviews in 22 European countries. In Portugal, 1,006 interviews were carried out.
