‘Why did they release it?’
The São Paulo Military Police said it will investigate a “possible operational error” that caused the driver to escape. The Internal Affairs Department is investigating the conduct of the agents who allowed Andrade Filho to leave the scene. The Ombudsman’s Office sent letters to demand images from cameras at the scene and the body equipment of the police officers involved.
In the incident report, police officers who responded to the case state that Andrade Filho’s mother said she would take her son to Hospital São Luiz in the south zone to treat a wound in the mouth. The defense says the businessman was in a “state of shock” on Sunday.
“My father didn’t deserve this cruelty,” said the victim’s son, Lucas Morais, 28, also a ride-hailing driver. “Why didn’t they do the breathalyzer? Why did they release him [o motorista do Porsche]? I don’t understand much about the law, but they can’t release anyone after an accident like that.” Viana’s body was buried in Guarulhos, in Greater São Paulo, on Monday.
