According to police records, Juarez was found dead in front of the house, with his hands tied. Maria Aparecida was in the bathroom, also lifeless. In the house there were signs of a struggle and several blood stains on the floor.

The couple’s room had been ransacked and their belongings had been stolen. At that time, approximately R$7,200 in cash were found in the room where Juarez slept.
