Wanting to live longer is a common concern among people, however, our habits do not always match our desires. We are going to give you four habits that you should adopt if you want to live longer.

To gain years of life you can (and should) make changes to your lifestyle. Multiple studies over the past few years, cited in DailyMail, proved that certain habits have a significant impact on longevity. Take note of these four essentials:

  • Sleep well: Almost everyone knows that poor quality sleep increases the risk of multiple cardiovascular conditions, as well as depression and, in some cases, cancer. But, in 2023, a study carried out by Harvard Medical School, in the United States, concluded that sleeping between seven and nine hours a night, every night, can increase the life expectancy of men by 4.7 years and women by 2 ,4 years;
  • Have sex regularly: another study, mentioned in the book ‘Secrets of the Superyoung’ by David Weeks, a neuropsychologist, stated that “the reduction in stress, the increase in satisfaction levels and the improvement in sleep that come from regular sex, may be enough to add four to seven years of life”;
  • Drink a lot of water: dehydration accelerates the aging process. For example, in studies carried out on rats, “slight dehydration was enough to reduce life expectancy by six months, which is equivalent to 15 years in human terms”;
  • Quit smoking (or never start, if possible): tobacco, according to WHO data, kills more than 8 million people each year, of which just over 7 million are the result of its direct use and around 1.2 million are non-smokers, exposed to secondhand smoke. Several studies carried out around the world prove that the habit of smoking greatly reduces life expectancy.
