After homicides at the IJF and at a school, Sarto points out that there is ‘complicity’ between the CE Government and factions – Security

Fortaleza experienced a violent morning in public facilities, this Tuesday (23), with the death of an employee within the Dr. José Frota Institute (IJF) and a young person in a municipal school in the Passaré neighborhood.

Through social media, the mayor of Fortaleza, José Sarto (PDT), criticized “the paralysis of the State Government in combating factions”, pointing out that “it does not appear to be just incompetence, but also complicity”.

“It is unacceptable for violence in Fortaleza to continue as it is. Today we are once again experiencing moments of horror. Two brutal murders”, began the manager.

In the publication, Sarto also states that he contacted the Secretariats of Citizen Security, Education, Health and Human Rights “to provide full support to the families of the victims and workers”.

“I will not allow access to our public services to be harmed by insecurity”, concluded the mayor.

Deaths at the IJF and at school

This morning, an IJF worker was shot dead and had his head cut off inside the health unit. According to the companion of a hospital patient, other employees were injured in the shooting and were taken for medical care.

Also this morning, another homicide was recorded, victimizing a young man at the Delma Hermínia da Silva Pereira Municipal School, in the Passaré neighborhood.

In a note, the Municipal Department of Education (SME) informs that “it is strictly following all the protocols provided for serving the school community at this time”.

The Ministry adds that, shortly after the crime, “the Military Police and Municipal Guard were called, in addition to the SME School Mediation team”. Classes at the educational unit were suspended.

What the SSPDS says

Regarding the death at school, the Secretariat of Public Security and Social Defense (SSPDS) confirmed, in a note, that teams from the Civil Police of the State of Ceará (PCCE) are investigating the circumstances of the crime, which victimized a young male, who has not yet been identified.

“The victim was hit by gunshots near a municipal educational institution, dying inside the school,” said the Ministry. The investigations are being carried out by the 7th DHPP Precinct of the Civil Police.

Regarding the murder within the IJF, the head of the SSPDS, Samuel Elânio, stated, in a press conference, that the crime was “passionate”, carried out by a former employee of the municipal unit. The man has already been identified and is wanted by security forces.

According to Elânio, who was in the hospital after the incident, the former employee was fired in 2022, managed to enter the unit with facial recognition and “out of jealousy” carried out the murder. His partner also works at the hospital. “It’s not about public safety,” she said, in response to Mayor José Sarto.
