Apartment owner was found dead, with head injuries, outside the building.
Lying on the street, with two blows to the head, surrounded by blood. This is how António Santana, 63 years old, was found, owner of an apartment that was destroyed yesterday after a fire, in Vila Real de Santo António. The Judiciary Police (PJ) is investigating the circumstances of the death and the causes of the fire in the house, which left five residents of the building homeless.
The fire alert was given at 1:24 am. “I saw smoke in the building and when I got here I found you already lying on the road with two blows to the forehead”, he recalled to the CM Telmo Santos, who alerted the authorities. Vila Real de Santo António firefighters fought the fire and prevented it from spreading to other apartments in the building. Civil Protection was on site and provided support to the displaced residents, who were welcomed by family members.
A PJ team, specialized in fires, carried out investigations at the scene and, according to the CM ascertained, third-party intervention has been ruled out for now. An autopsy on the victim’s body will be essential to understand the causes of death.
