Parades, inaugurations and concert celebrate April between today and tomorrow in Barreiro

Liberdade “adds” Casa da Cidadania and sculpture by Cátia Esteves to the municipality’s heritage. And brings Jorge Palma to the stage

Two parades, two inaugurations, a concert and the usual solemn session of the Municipal Assembly mark, between today and tomorrow, the commemoration of the fiftieth anniversary of the Carnation Revolution.

This Wednesday, between 10 am and 12 pm, the historic date begins by being marked with the “Junior Freedom Parade”, which begins next to the Town Hall. And from 8 pm the same initiative takes place: the “Associative Movement Freedom Parade”, with a concentration in Torralta. The concert with Jorge Palma is scheduled for 10 pm, in Parque da Cidade do Barreiro, but in between the sculpture entitled “Liberdade”, by the artist from Barreiro Cátia Esteves, is inaugurated, in the Polis area.

The activities continue tomorrow, the 25th, at 8 am, with the flag-raising ceremony in the Town Hall. The ritual is repeated with the presence of the Rifle School, at 8:30 am, and is also carried out in Santo António da Charneca (8:30 am), Alto do Seixalinho (9:00 am), Palhais (9:00 am), Lavradio (9:30 am), Santo André (9:45 am), Barreiro (10:00 am) and Verderena (10:30 am).

This will be followed, starting at 11 am, by the ceremony commemorating the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April, at Largo 1.º de Maio. The session includes the awarding of the Medal of Bravery and Altruism to former political prisoners by PIDE.

The inauguration of the “Cabós Gonçalves” Citizenship House, on Rua da Estação do Barreiro A, is scheduled for 12:15 pm. The evocative session of April 25, 1974 by the Municipal Assembly is another highlight of the celebrations prepared to highlight the date. This ceremony starts at 9 pm and takes place at the Augusto Cabrita Municipal Auditorium.
