Fernando de Noronha District Council requests change of solar plant installation area | Living Noronha

District councilors from Fernando de Noronha were at the headquarters of Neoenergia Pernambuco, in Recife, on Monday (22), and requested that the company relocate a solar plant, scheduled to be installed in the Estrada Velha do Sueste region.

Representatives of the island’s residents want this area to be used for the distribution of lots in the District Housing Policy (PHD).

According to the president of the Council, Ailton Araújo Júnior, the location planned for the plant, which is part of the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) area, is an urban area and can be used for subdivision.

“This area can be included in the PHD and transformed into around 100 lots, measuring 250 meters. By law, subdivisions can only be built in urban areas. The solar plant can be installed in the conservation zone, where housing is not possible”, said Ailton Júnior.

Neoenergia’s Institutional Relations manager, Rafael Nascimento, participated in the meeting with the counselors. He explained that the company has authorization from the FAB to study the installation of the solar plant, but that the land has not yet been transferred.

“We ask the District Council to indicate another area so that we can also study for installation. We need to evaluate whether it is possible to replace one area with another”, declared the manager.

Rafael Nascimento stated that Neoenergia is in the initial phase of the work and that the company does not have the necessary licenses to install the solar panels, so there is no forecast for the start of the work.

According to Ailton Araújo, the district councilors were also at the Court of Auditors of the State of Pernambuco (TCE), on Tuesday (23). They asked the body to extend the deadline for submitting the analysis of the Island Administration’s accountability, which is carried out by the Council.

“We made this request due to the delay in sending information from the Noronha Administration, including answers to our questions”, said the president of the District Council.

On Wednesday (24), councilors will participate in a meeting at Companhia Pernambucana de Saneamento (Compesa) to discuss the sanitation of areas in Fernando de Noronha and connection to water supply at already authorized points.
