As Rádio Campanário reported, a road accident occurred early this afternoon in Landeira, in the municipality of Vendas Novas, an accident involving an animal-drawn vehicle.
According to the information now updated by Civil Protection (CDOS of Central Alentejo), it was a carriage participating in the Moita-Viana do Alentejo Horse Pilgrimage that today was passing through this location as part of the route defined for the Pilgrimage.
The alert for the incident was given at 12:28 pm. This accident resulted in one fatality and one serious injury. The INEM helicopter was called to the scene as one of the victims was initially considered seriously injured but did not survive and was declared dead at the scene.
The fatal victim was 56 years old and his son, considered slightly injured, is 28 years old, according to Agência Lusa.
The slightly injured man was meanwhile taken to Évora Hospital.
The Vendas Novas Fire Department, GNR and INEM were at the scene of the accident, with a total of 15 operational personnel supported by 6 vehicles.
