An accident between a Pernambuco Military Police vehicle and a motorcycle caused the death of a motorcyclist, this Wednesday morning (24), in the central area of Recife.
The collision took place on Avenida Agamenon Magalhães, corner of Rua do Paissandu, in front of Hospital Português.
The collision occurred during a pursuit of suspects of committing a robbery, in Espinheiro, in the North Zone of the city.
The crash happened around 5:20 am. The radio patrol vehicle was heading towards Centro/Boa Viagem, along Agamenon Magalhães, when it hit a pole and hit the motorcycle.
The motorcycle that was involved in the accident was not related to the robbery carried out shortly before. The crime suspects managed to escape.
The impact of the accident was very great. The vehicle’s front part was heavily damaged.
The motorcycle hit by the vehicle stopped at least 100 meters away.
Two helmets were left lying on the ground, as were several parts of the motorcycle and vehicle.
According to information provided by the police, the motorcyclist suffered serious injuries and was taken to the hospital, but did not survive.
The victim was identified as João Gilberto de Oliveira Filho, 51 years old.
The police officers who were in the vehicle only had small scratches.
Traffic in the area became very complicated. CTTU agents went to the scene to control traffic.
In a note, the Fire Department said that it was called at around 5:25 am to support the PMPE in a collision in Agamenon Magalhães, close to the Hospital Real Português.
“The firefighters provided pre-hospital care to a male victim, 51 years old. The victim was taken alive to Hospital da Restauração,” he stated.
