Rio – Jockey Maikon Mesquita, aged 21, was transferred to Hospital Casa de Portugal, in Rio Comprido, in the early afternoon of this Wednesday (24). According to the Municipal Health Department (SMS), the young man’s clinical condition is considered very serious.

Maikon was rescued by the Brazilian Jockey Club (JCB) medical team and taken to the Miguel Couto Municipal Hospital after suffering a fall during a race at the Gávea Hipódromo, in the South Zone, on Monday night (22).

The broadcast on the JCB channel, ‘TV Turfe’, recorded the moment when the jockey fell from the animal during the second race of the night. The competition’s narrator even said that Maikon was conscious and talking to the nurses on duty.

In a statement, the JCB informed that the young man continues to receive all the necessary medical care and with all the support from the Jockey directly to the athlete and his family. “From now on, we hope for M.Mesquita’s prompt recovery from the programs”, he said.
