Caroline Santos added another international medal in her career this Thursday (25). Competing in the women’s under-67kg category, the world runner-up and qualified for the Olympic Games won the title at the Taekwondo Tallinn Open, held in Estonia.

In her campaign, Juma, as she is also known, only lost one round. The losing part was precisely in the final, against the Chinese Song Jie, who she defeated 2-1 to win the gold medal.

Before reaching the decision, the Brazilian didn’t give her rivals a chance and closed the fights in two rounds. In her debut, she beat Swedish player Meja Lidman. She then defeated Isabelle Faber of Luxembrug in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, she defeated China’s Mengyu Zhang, world champion in 2019 and number 5 in the Olympic rankings.

Caroline Santos was the first taekwondo athlete to secure a place at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Juma had his classification announced by the World Taekwondo Federation at the end of January, through reallocation via ranking. In addition to her, Brazil will also count on Edival Marques, Henriques Marques and Maria Clara Pacheco, who won their places through qualifying.
