Electric car manufacturer Polestar finally entered the smartphone marketlaunching in China the conveniently named “Polestar Phone” in partnership with Meizu.

If the images below give you a feeling of déjà vu, know that it’s not for nothing: the Polestar Phone is largely based on the Meizu 21 Prowith some differences here and there, but very powerful hardware for the category.

To begin with, the device comes with a 6.79-inch LTPO OLED display and 120Hz frame rate, with a maximum brightness of 1,850 nits. The rear camera kit has a 50 megapixel (MP) main sensor, a 13 MP wide-angle lens and a 10 MP telephoto sensor with three times optical zoom. On the front, the selfie camera has 32 MP.

Internally, the Polestar Phone has a third-generation (Gen 3) Snapdragon 8 processor, currently the most powerful version of Qualcomm chipsetsin addition to a 5,050 milliampere-hour (mAh) battery with quick recharge capacity of 80W (wired) or 50W (induction), in addition to reverse charging – when you share your load to charge another device – of 10W.

Polestar followed with a unique version, bringing 1 TB of internal storage and 16 GB of RAM. Finally, the IP68 certification ensures protection against water and dust and the biometric reader is located under the screen.

The charm, however, lies in something that Brazilian fans are unlikely to experience anytime soon: the Polestar Phone was designed to feature high connectivity with the Polestar 4, the luxury electric SUV that the manufacturer revealed alongside the smartphone. The design of the device imitates the look of the car and the dedicated app that shares functions with both products.

When we talk about “hardly trying”, we are very serious: the Polestar Phone and Polestar 4 are both exclusive products for the Chinese market and have no plans to be presented in any global launch. In China, the device costs ¥7,388, which is a little more than US$1,000 or R$5,269.52.
