Murder in Mata da Praia: lawyer spends weekend in prison

Even with the request for freedom, presented by the defense, lawyer Luis Hormindo França da Costa must spend the weekend in prison. He is accused of killing retiree Manoel de Oliveira Pepino during an exchange of gunfire in Mata da Praia, in Vitória, last weekend.

This Saturday (27) will mark one week since the crime, which was caused by a fight between neighbors over a dog. According to lawyer Luciano Gagno, who defends the accused, the request for freedom was made, but there is still no news about the case.

“The judge has already ordered the investigation to carry out the steps. Our request for freedom is there and he must send it to the Public Prosecutor’s Office to give their opinion. But we should only have movement next week”, believes Gagno, who maintains that his client acted in self-defense.

Last Thursday, the victim’s widow, Marília Pepino, gave a new statement to the police According to the lawyer hired by the retiree’s family, Victor Magno, she confirmed what he had previously said about the dynamics of the crime.

“She told us what we already have an idea of ​​what happened. That the author had the opportunity to leave and didn’t. That the author had an extra charger. That she offended and cursed Mr. Manuel. She just gave more details of the facts to the delegate”, he revealed.

One day after the retiree’s murder, Marília revealed, in a press conference, that she was accompanied by her husband and the family dog ​​when the lawyer approached her making threats. The fight between the two would have been motivated by the animal being loose and without a muzzle.

Magno has already declared that he disputes the thesis of self-defense alleged by the accused of the crime. He says that, before the shooting, the victim had already been threatened by the lawyer, and he even ignored the widow’s request for him to leave. “He said: I’m going to stay and let’s see who will die first, who will have their mouth full of ants. This is not the attitude of someone who was surprised.”

Investigators from the Civil Police of Espírito Santo (PCES) were, last Tuesday (23), at the place where the lawyer killed with a shot to the head. The case remains under investigation and other details of the investigation are not being disclosed.
