OJ Simpson, the American football star who became known for his ex-wife’s death trial, has died from complications from prostate cancer. The information was released by TMZ, who spoke with lawyer Malcolm LaVergne, responsible for Simpson’s estate, and who received his death certificate in recent days.

His career was marked by the murder trial of his ex-wife and a friend of hers, in 1995, which shocked the United States and was reported around the world. Simpson was acquitted, but his life was never the same.

In 1997, a civil lawsuit filed by the victims’ families found him responsible for the deaths of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald L. Goldman and ordered him to pay $33.5 million in damages. Simpson paid off part of the debt and moved to Florida.

In 2006, he published the book “If I Did It” – or if I did, without free translation. In 2007, he was arrested after breaking into, along with other men, a Las Vegas hotel room belonging to some sports memorabilia dealers. They took away a treasure trove of collectibles.

Simpson claimed the items had been stolen from him, but in 2008 the court found him guilty of 12 charges – including armed robbery and kidnapping. He was then sentenced to 33 years in a Nevada state prison. He served the minimum sentence of nine years and was released in 2017.
