After rising R$200 per 60-kilo bag (equivalent to 20%) throughout April, coffee prices began the month of May with a significant drop, reports Esalq’s Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (Cepea). /USP.

According to Cepea surveys, in just three business days this month, devaluations have already reached 12% for arabica (or R$ 149.45 per bag) and 15.8% for Robusta (or R$ 179, 06 per bag), meaning that more than half of April’s gains were lost.

With the declines, the Cepea/Esalq Robusta indicator closed again below R$1,000 per 60-kilo bag. Regarding the harvest of the 2024/25 Arabica crop, Cepea employees report that some volumes were removed in regions in the south of Minas and Garça (SP), with the pace of activities expected to increase in the second half of May.
