Globo and Record used Jornal Nacional and Jornal da Record to exchange serious accusations
THE Globo and Record are two of the largest broadcasters in Brazil, but with very different ideals. In addition to fighting for audience, the channels have also over the last few years engaged in a series of exchanges of accusations and use their main newscasts – National Journal it’s the Record Journal – to expose complaints.
In 2009, for example, Globo published a report in Jornal Nacional about investigations by the Public Ministry against the leadership of the Universal Church, led by Edir Macedo, the owner of Record. Even images of the bishop dated 1995 teaching pastors to convince the faithful to ask for money were shown on the network.
Record, in turn, did not let this situation go unnoticed. In response, the channel used Jornal da Record to publish articles that accused Globo of covering what is nothing more than a “direct and desperate attack” by those who are afraid of losing “the monopoly of the media in Brazil”.
In addition, the broadcaster accused “the Marinho family of using television for their interests” and claimed that they gained power during the military dictatorship. However, that was not the only time that the two stations attacked each other and used Jornal Nacional and Jornal da Record on the battlefront. The scene repeated itself in the year 2020.
That year, Edir Macedo’s broadcaster decided to declare a real war against the rival broadcaster. Celso Freitas, anchor of Jornal da Record, exposed for eight consecutive days a series of reports weaving a series of accusations against Globo and its owners. It was 71 minutes dedicated precisely to exposition.

The station’s attitude was due to a report shown in Jornal Nacional – led by Renata Vasconcellos and William Bonner – which dealt precisely with an alleged money laundering scheme of which the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God, led by the channel’s bishops , would have been involved.
In response, Record aired in Jornal da Record accusations against Globo of tax evasion, alleged involvement with corruption in football, a certain ‘pact with Sergio Cabral’ for broadcasting the 2016 Olympic Games, luxury properties that would be in an irregular situation and business with money changers.
