Action comedy by Walter Hill made in 1988, in the midst of perestroika, the opening of the Soviet Union to the Western world. Ivan Danko (Arnold Schwarzenegger) is Moscow’s toughest detective; Art Ridzik (James Belushi), Chicago’s most irreverent cop. Their mission: find a drug dealer on the run. However, the differences between these two police officers and, consequently, the Soviets and the Americans, are evident and the confrontation between Danko’s discipline and Ridzik’s eccentricity is inevitable.

Jafar Panahi, who has not been able to leave Iran or make films since 2010, signed this film in secret. The director himself, making a fictional version of himself, is directing, remotely and through the computer, a drama based on true events. This while he lives on a small land near the border with Turkey. It won the Special Jury Prize at the 79th edition of the Venice Film Festival.

An Extraordinary Friend
AXN Movies, 9:10 p.m.

Directed by Marielle Heller, this biographical film focuses on the unlikely friendship between Fred Rogers (1928-2003), the legendary and widely loved and respected host and creator of a famous American children’s program, and a journalist. This is fictionalized in the character of Lloyd Vogel, but has a real-life counterpart in Tom Junod, author of Can You Say…Hero?article published in the magazine Esquire which inspired the script, written by Noah Harpster and Micah Fitzerman-Blue. The main roles include Matthew Rhys as the cynical reporter and Tom Hanks as the pure Rogers – nominated for an Oscar, a Golden Globe and a BAFTA for Best Supporting Actor.

Last week, Herman José, who is celebrating 50 years of career, celebrated his 70th birthday and was awarded the Medal of Cultural Merit by the government that is now out of office. RTP Memória is showing his comedy series from 1987, created and starring by himself in front of a cast that included Lídia Franco, Vítor de Sousa, São José Lapa or Rosa Lobato de Faria.

The series in which a prisoner from northern California volunteers to fight fires in his former region, among friends from the past, fellow inmates and specialist firefighters, is now in its second season. It is co-created by Max Thieriot, who is also the protagonist and was born in the region.

Luiz Villas-Boas: The Last Journey

On the centenary of the birth of Luiz Villas-Boas (1924-1999), one of the biggest names in the dissemination and promotion of jazz in Portugal and founder of Hot Clube de Portugal, RTP premieres this documentary written by musician and actor Laurent Filipe. In addition to Villas-Boas, who they call “father of jazz in Portugal” and is a symbol of anti-fascist resistance, this documentary also aims to look at the first edition, organized by him, of Cascais Jazz, in 1971, with names such as Ornette Coleman, Charlie Haden, Art Blakey, Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie or Thelonious Monk.
