Shonda Rhimes, the brain behind the story of the Grey’s Anatomy series, says she went through moments of terror because of fans

Shonda Rhimes is a screenwriter and filmmaker, and owns the company that produced the Grey’s Anatomy series. In addition to Grey’s Anatomy, Rhimes has a partnership with Netflix that has allowed her to produce “Inventing Anna“, “How To Get Away With Murder” and many other hits on the platform.

Grey’s Anatomy is a series with 20 seasons and continues to collect fans since the first episode in 2005. In an interview with the Sunday Times, Rhimes stated that she initially enjoyed interacting with fans on social media but has increasingly restricted herself over the years: “Social media has changed. The fans have always been passionate and I was fine with that (…) I understand that they feel the characters are friends. They were my imaginary friends too. That’s why I created them. I think people had too strong feelings about what happened to their friends and it became weird.”

Throughout the interview, Shonda Rhimes gave concrete examples of the changes she had to make due to her fear: at the end of each season, the filmmaker needed to have a police car parked outside her house for a week because she would receive death threats from fans unhappy with the end of a certain season.

Shonda Rhimes defends herself by claiming that “I never knew who would really be capable of hurting me because people are dangerous and strange”, as time went by the police car solution was not enough and she ended up hiring private security at her home from Los Angeles for 24 hours. The filmmaker adopted her first daughter in 2002, Harper, in 2010 she adopted her second daughter, Emerson Pearl and the following year, via surrogate, Beckett.

“I wanted to be able to walk out my front door and walk with my kids without worrying. I lay down at night in stress. Fortunately, I had some friends who went through simulated experiences and taught me that if I couldn’t live my life normally I would never be able to live”, the main reason for all the security was due to Shonda Rhimes’ children, the filmmaker states that It was for them that he made these decisions.
