“WI praise Azerbaijan’s important support for Ukraine in terms of much-needed humanitarian aid, but more support is needed, because the situation in Ukraine is extremely difficult”, said the official, at a press conference with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
The leader of the Atlantic Alliance stated, quoted by the Spanish news agency EFE, that “NATO allies are very concerned about the consequences of the war” and added: “NATO allies support Ukraine.”
Azerbaijan sent fuel for Ukrainian emergency services vehicles, in addition to energy equipment, such as transformers and cables, totaling around 7.5 million dollars, equivalent to almost 6.9 million euros.
Stoltenberg, who had already visited Baku in his capacity as Norwegian Energy Minister, highlighted the importance of this sector for security and argued that Azerbaijan should “strengthen its ties with several NATO members” in this area, referring to the growing supplies of gas to several European Union countries.
The NATO leader arrived in Azerbaijan today as part of a series of visits to the Caucasus countries, including Georgia and Armenia.
On Monday, he should meet with the Ministers of Defense and Foreign Affairs, Zakir Gazánov and Jeyhun Bayrámov, then heading to Georgia, before arriving in Armenia, on Tuesday.
