The governor of the German central bank, Joachim Nagel, considered this Saturday that the extreme right is a threat to the country’s well-being, driving away foreign investors and workers.

“The danger posed by the extreme right should not be taken lightly. The extreme right drives away foreign investors and workers, which threatens our well-being,” said the head of the Bundesbank (Germany’s central bank), in statements to the Funke group’s media outlets.

The German governor revealed that this fear led him to recently participate, for the first time in his life, in a demonstration in defense of democracy.

Joachim Nagel also spoke out against what he considers to be exaggerations in the descriptions of Germany’s current economic problems.

“We must not make descriptions worse than reality. If we do, no one will want to invest in Germany. We are not ‘the sick man’ of Europe,” he said.

Although he highlighted that he cannot be satisfied with the current stagnation of the economy, he recalled that the war in Ukraine had a major impact and that there are some positive indicators, such as the country being close to full employment.
