AThe identities of the six people who were reported dead by US authorities following the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, following a ship collision, are beginning to be known.

According to the BBC, the victims are all men, from Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador, who were working on the bridge, for the company Brawner Builders, at the time of the accident.

So far, little information about their identities has been released. However, according to the BBC, which cites a statement from the non-profit organization Casa, which helps the immigrant community in Baltimore, one of the victims is Miguel Luna.

“He was a husband, father of three children and Maryland had been his home for 19 years”, reads the note signed by the Casa’s executive director, Gustavo Torres.

Meanwhile, to The Washington Post, one of Miguel’s sons, Marvin Luna, revealed that he knew his father was working on the bridge that night, but didn’t know it had collapsed until some friends called him to tell him what had happened. .

Another victim, according to the Associated Press, is Honduran Maynor Yassir Suazo Sandova.

The Guatemalan Ministry of Foreign Affairs has however confirmed that two of the missing workers were Guatemalans, from the regions of Petén and Chiquimula, however, it has not yet identified them.

“They were like family.” They all had “spouses and children”

The company for which the six men worked has also reacted to their deaths. “They were like family. Wonderful people,” Jeffrey Pritzker, executive vice president of Brawner Builders, told the New York Times, adding that they all had “spouses and children.”

“It’s a very, very bad day”, he highlighted in the same interview.

Authorities are now investigating the accident to determine who is responsible.
