“An Air Force plane [de Israel] hit a vehicle in the Kounine region, in Lebanon, in which Ismail al-Zein was traveling”, the Israeli army said in a statement today.

The army described him as the “commander of a unit (…) responsible for dozens of attacks” against Israel.

In Beirut, a Lebanese military source stated that “an Israeli drone hit a car in the village of Kounine, killing one person on board”. No further details were provided, as reported by France Presse (AFP).

The violence between the Israeli army and Hezbollah, near the border with Lebanon, has intensified since October last year, following the Hamas attack on Israel and the country’s military response in the Gaza Strip.

The pro-Iranian Hezbollah targets Israeli military positions and locations close to the border, and Israel responds by bombing Lebanese territory, mainly in the south, and with attacks directed against Hezbollah and Hamas officials.

On Friday, the Israeli army announced that it had killed “Ali Abdel Hassan Naïm, the deputy commander of Hezbollah’s missile and rocket unit”, in an attack in Bazouriyé, in southern Lebanon.

Hezbollah confirmed his death.

Since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas on October 7, at least 348 people have been killed in Lebanon – mostly Hezbollah fighters, but also at least 68 civilians – according to an AFP count.

On the Israeli side, ten soldiers and eight civilians were killed, according to the army.
