UA woman, living in Florida, in the United States, had been trying to get pregnant for three years without success, until she became pregnant two weeks after starting to use the Mounjauro injectable pen (a medication for diabetes that is effective in losing weight in overweight adults). Weight).
In November 2022, Marcela Romero of Fort Myers began taking the drug Mounjaro with the goal of losing weight.
Two weeks after starting the medication, the woman, who had been trying to get pregnant for at least three years and had even considered in vitro fertilization, was surprised by the news that she would be a mother.
According to Good Morning America, the woman decided to stop taking the medication after confirming her pregnancy and nine months later, in September 2023, she gave birth to a healthy daughter – now seven months old.
“She is very happy, very smiling all the time,” the woman told the program last Thursday.
However, Romero is not the only one to report the side effect of heightened fertility. Other women in the US report becoming pregnant while using injectable pens for weight loss. A Facebook group called ‘I got pregnant with Ozempic’ has more than 450 members.
Monjauro (with tirzepatide as an active ingredient), manufactured by the pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly, was originally developed for the treatment of type 2 diabetes, but is used ‘off label’ (a purpose different from the drug leaflet) to lose weight, as well as o Ozempic (with semaglutide as the active ingredient), manufactured by Novo Nordisk.
