Number 4 on Germany national team jerseys to be redesigned because of Nazi symbolism – Football

The design of the number 4 on the team’s jerseys Germany’s national team will be redesigned due to similarities between the number 44 and the symbol of the SS, a Nazi paramilitary and police organization, reported the German Football Federation (DFB), cited this Monday by the Reuters agency.

“The DFB checks the numbers 0 to 9 and then sends the numbers 1 to 26 to UEFA for review. None of the parties involved saw any proximity to Nazi symbolism in the process of creating the shirt design”, the institution began by mentioning on social network X.

The German team debuted the equipment in the victory (2-0) in a friendly match against France in February and is preparing to use it in the European championship in June and July.

“However, we take the comments very seriously and do not want to provide a platform for discussion. We will develop an alternative design for the number 4 and coordinate it with UEFA,” explained the DFB.

The DFB’s official supplier, Adidas, promised to “lock the number 44 as soon as possible”. The company “opposes actively combats xenophobia, anti-Semitism, violence and hatred in any form,” said spokesman Oliver Bruggen.
