Ahe images arriving from the site where a fire occurred that caused the death of at least 29 people, in Istanbul, Turkey, this Tuesday, show a scene of destruction and the fatigue of firefighters who struggled to stop the flames in the building 16 floors.
It is recalled that at least 29 people died and several others were injured, three of them seriously, according to the local governor’s office. The fire broke out in the basement of the building, where a nightclub that was being remodeled was located.
A large number of firefighters were mobilized to the Gayrettepe neighborhood, in the city center, where the fire was recorded, to try to save the people trapped in the building, and the fire was eventually extinguished. Meanwhile, search and rescue operations in the building have already been completed.
While an administrative inquiry into the fire was launched, 2 civil inspectors were appointed. Three public prosecutors were appointed as part of the investigation initiated by the Istanbul Prosecutor General’s Office and there are several professionals working to collect evidence.
According to Anadolu Agency, they were eight suspects arrestedincluding the nightclub managers and a person responsible for the works.
A local mayor said it was suspected that the victims were involved in renovation work. The building will be assessed to determine its safety.
