UA couple was sued by two people who illegally broke into their home and refused to leave their duplex in New York, USA. “It’s completely absurd,” said the rightful owner of the house, Juliya Fulman.

The owners realized that the house had been occupied after trying to rent it. When they were unable to change the lock, they returned to the house and saw the silhouette of a man through the window. The police were eventually called to the scene and the two intruders were identified as Lance Hunt and Rondie L. Francis, having assured that they had lived in the house for months.

The two men left the house without incident and the owners expressed a desire to change the lock. However, they were warned by police that they could not do so due to a law in five districts of the state, which grants legal protections to intruders as long as they have been in homes for at least 30 days. This law makes it very difficult to evict unwanted tenants.

“These people literally broke into my house. It’s not fair for us as homeowners not to be protected,” said the homeowner.

Two weeks after leaving the house, the two invaders returned to occupy the property and were then expelled from the property once the owners confirmed that the house had been empty for the last few days.

After that, the couple was sued by the invaders who are now fighting in court for the right to housing.
