O Beijing Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin criticized Stoltenberg’s comments as being “meant only to deflect blame and inflame tensions against” the People’s Republic of China.
“These are unfounded accusations,” Wang added, before ensuring that the country “is neither the creator nor a party to this crisis”, referring to the war in Ukraine.
In statements published by the Chinese state newspaper Global Times, the spokesperson stressed that the People’s Republic of China “does not supply weapons materials to the parties to the conflict and strictly controls any export” of so-called “dual-use items, such as unmanned aerial vehicles ” which can be used for both civil and military purposes.
Stoltenberg said China is “leveraging Russia’s war economy by sharing high-level technology with Russia and providing it with high-level satellite system capabilities as well as satellite imagery.”
“All this helps Moscow inflict more death and destruction on Ukraine,” Stoltenberg said during a visit to Germany.
“China is a country that says it wants to have good relations with the West and, at the same time, continues to fuel the biggest conflict seen in Europe since the Second World War, and it cannot do both at the same time,” Stoltenberg added. in the speech before the Atlantik-Brucke German-American Partnership Forum.
