Almenara Street, located in the center of Ipatinga, hosts the largest graffiti panel in the municipality. The project, titled “Living Walls of Ipatinga”, is promoted by Rodrigo Frami, who is a tattoo artist and works with visual arts. Anyone who passes by the 11th Military Fire Brigade, close to the entrance to Ipanema Park, will see the figure of an indigenous woman printed on a wall, representing mother nature. Painting began on Thursday (18). See the full interview below.

Rodrigo Frami explained to the Diário do Aço report that the work aims to represent the importance that nature has for society. “By representing mother nature, we show some of the importance of culture. It’s what I’ve been looking for for a long time,” he pointed out.

The artist detailed that the project was approved by the Paulo Gustavo Law. “Most of the graffiti that I have spread around the city are works that I did out of my own pocket. The ‘Living Walls of Ipatinga’ project is an exclusive work. Of the artists involved in painting and art in the municipality, mine was the only one approved,” he said.

Frami added that the location was chosen because it was a very large area. “I chose to paint on a wall near Ipanema Park because it is a very large place, which is the largest panel in the city.”

Valuing culture
For Rodrigo Frami, valuing local artists means providing greater incentive to carry out work that deserves to be appreciated. “I have always sought to value artists, to make great works focused on nature, which appeal to everyone from a child to an elderly person. I’m trying to rescue this culture, which in our city is very undervalued”, he highlighted.

He also emphasized that he always sought to integrate people within cultural activities. “My aim is to train new artists. I have been committed to teaching for many years. I’ve trained people in both painting and tattooing. We need to show people’s cultural side,” he concluded.
