Thanks to a collaboration between the company Figure and OpenAI, the Figure 01 humanoid robot can now talk to people in real time and respond to requests to do things. The video allows us to understand the incredible evolution of this set of technologies that will revolutionize the world.

We are closer to having robots talking to humans

We are just a few years away from having completely independent robots generating conversations with people in a very natural way. Using some technologies, such as Generative Artificial Intelligence, humanoids will understand the content, development and framing of dialogues, in order to maintain a conversation with humans.

As we can see in the video, Figure's development progress is extraordinary. Entrepreneur Brett Adcock came out of hiding last year after bringing together a group of key players from Boston Dynamics, Tesla, Google DeepMind and Archer Aviation to "create the world's first commercially viable general-purpose humanoid robot."

By October, Figure 01 was up and running basic autonomous tasks. By the end of the year, the robot had observation and learning capabilities and was ready to enter the BMW workforce in mid-January.

We got to see it in the warehouse last month, just before Figure announced a successful Series B funding round, along with a collaboration agreement with OpenAI "to develop next-generation AI models for humanoid robots." Now we have a taste of what this means.

Adcock confirmed in an X post that Figure 01's integrated cameras send data to a large visual language model trained by OpenAI, while Figure's own neural networks also "capture images at 10 Hz through the robot's cameras."

OpenAI is also responsible for the ability to understand spoken words and all this flow of information is translated into "fast, low-level actions and robot dexterity" by Figure's neural network.

According to Adcock, the robot was not teleoperated during the demonstration and the video was filmed at real speed.

In short, a remarkable feat for a partnership that is less than two weeks old.

Our goal is to train a global model to operate humanoid robots at the billion-unit level.

Adcock said.

In fact, at this rate, we won't have to wait long to have robots responding, as if they were humans, in the most varied professions and functions.
