A from 2025, restaurants, commerce and services will only pay for the waste they produce instead of a value indexed to the water bill. To the families, this measure should only arrive five years later, in 2030.
The news, it should be noted, was reported by Jornal de Notícias, which explains that the tariffs will be calculated on the amount of waste collected, measured in weight units or estimated by the containerization volume, applying the user-pays principle.
At issue is a decree-law published in the Diário da República, which provides that “from January 1, 2025 tariffs for the commerce, services and restaurants should no longer be indexed to water consumption”.
Regarding the other deadline, which concerns the familiesthe following can be read: “From January 1, 2030 tariffs for the domestic sector must no longer be indexed to water consumption”.
