Pierluigi Antonelli, with a 25-year career in the pharmaceutical industry, currently a member of the board of directors of Fresenius and president of Fresenius Kabi, now sits at the top of the Portuguese pharmaceutical company led by Horta Osório.
The largest Portuguese pharmaceutical company, which employs around 800 people, 130 of whom are in the R&D area, from 14 nationalities, has a board of directors that also reflects the company’s global profile, which generates 75% of its turnover of 340 million euros in more than 50 countries.
With half of its management made up of people born abroad and with professional careers completed abroad, Bial has just appointed to its leadership, as a non-executive member, the Italian Pierluigi Antonelli, current member of the board of directors of Fresenius and president of Fresenius Kabi.

With a 25-year history in the pharmaceutical industry, with experience in the biosciences, biological and generic medicines sectors, Pierluigi Antonelli was, in his previous position, CEO of Angelini Pharma, having held leadership roles in companies such as Novartis Oncology, Sandoz, Merck & Co and Bristol-Myers Squibb, both in the United States and in Europe.

Pierluigi Antonelli has an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management, in the United States, and a degree in Economics from the Libera Università Internazionale degli Studi Sociali, in Italy.
