So far, the average deadline for refunds paid is 12.8 days, whereas, in recent years, the average refund deadlines seen in recent years were 16 days for automatic IRS and 19.5 days for the rest. According to an official source from the Ministry of Finance to VISÃO, the total amount of refunds amounts to 21.7 million euros, with the average value being 867 euros.

As of April 16, the number of IRS declarations submitted already exceeded 2 million (2,042,060 declarations, 890,000 of which via automatic IRS), with 205,000 refunds having been issued.

Regarding a possible delay in validating declarations, the same source guarantees that not only was no problem identified in validation processing. By the 22nd, 440,000 more declarations had been validated than in the same period last year. “Not only was no problem identified in the validation processing of IRS model 3 declarations, but, in fact, by the end of April 22nd, there was an increase of more than 440 thousand validated declarations compared to the same period last year (1,926,176 validated declarations, while in the same period of 2023 we had 1,484,318 validated declarations)”, assures the Ministry source.

The validation process is “complex” and this complexity varies depending on the number and type of annexes to the declaration.
