Despite the princess’s statement, Kensington Palace is not expected to reveal any further medical details, such as the type of cancer or the stage at which it is.
The Prince and Princess of Wales expressed their gratitude for the outpouring of support they received from the public after Catherine, Princess of Wales, announced that she has cancer.
“The Prince and Princess are very touched by the kind messages sent by people here in the UK, across the Commonwealth and around the world in response to His Royal Highness’ message. They are extremely touched by the warmth and support from the public and thank you for understanding your request for privacy at this time,” a Kensington Palace spokesperson said on Saturday.
The princess, known as Kate, described her diagnosis as a “huge shock” in a video statement released on social media.
The news comes two months after he retired from public life following what Kensington Palace said at the time was surgery for a non-cancerous abdominal condition. Since then, Kate has been faced with a lot of speculation about her health.
“In January I had major abdominal surgery in London and at the time it was thought that my problem was not cancerous,” said Catherine, 42, who is married to the heir to the British throne, Prince William.
“The surgery was successful. However, tests carried out after the operation revealed the presence of cancer. My medical team advised me to undergo preventive chemotherapy and I am now in the initial phase of this treatment.”
The princess began undergoing preventative chemotherapy at the end of February, a royal source told CNN, adding that Kate was expected to return to official duties after Easter, but will now postpone work until she has permission from the medical team.
Kensington Palace is unlikely to reveal any further medical details, such as the type of cancer or its stage.
