The tycoon Elon Musk recognized nan interview who uses ketamine when he is in a “negative state of mind”. Although it is the first time that he has made his consumption public, Musk had already defended the use of this substance for depression.

Musk assured journalist Don Lemon that he consumes ketamine in small doses, “once a fortnight”, because he does not believe that he has prolonged depression: «If you abuse it, you will not be able to do your job». With this ‘confession’, he joins the list of celebrities who have turned to ketamine to treat depression.

Clinical trials have not yet been conducted to compare whether ketamine is more effective than esketamine. What has been demonstrated is that both have an effect much faster than conventional antidepressants such as, for example, Prozac. Another peculiarity of these substances is that they act on glutamate, a neurotransmitter that has been linked to mood.

Initially, ketamine induces the patient to a dissociative state that alters your consciousness and with which he experiences very peculiar visions, memories and emotions. After this ‘psychedelic trip’, which lasts around 50 minutes, the material that emerges during the experience is analyzed together with the therapist.

Experts say that its use should always be done under medical supervision.
