António Tavares, candidate for the presidency of the Board of the General Assembly (MAG) of FC Porto on the André Villas-Boas list, congratulated this Saturday the “very considerable” turnout of Porto members in the elections for the club’s governing bodies.

“We already have a very considerable number of members, this means that they are very attentive to the life of the club, concerned, and, therefore, they are participating. It is an initiative that should be a celebration that brings together Porto fans and also a civic one. Therefore, Regardless of some difficulties at the start, we hope everything goes well”, said the list B candidate.

The former deputy for the PSD in the Assembly of the Republic, between 1985 and 1991, the current provider of Santa Casa da Misericórdia do Porto, showed no doubts that the record for participation in electoral acts of the ‘blues and whites’ – the The mark to be surpassed is 10,731 members in 1988.

“I have no doubts about that. Participation, at the moment, is extremely high and, therefore, it is a great mobilization of Porto fans”, he said.

Regarding the delay in opening the doors, by around half an hour, António Tavares did not want to detail the specific reasons, attributing responsibilities to unspecified “administrative and bureaucratic” issues, but was satisfied with their resolution.

“I did not want to fuel any type of controversy at this stage of the day. I could say that these were incidents resulting from some administrative and bureaucratic misunderstandings that were resolved, for which List B made its contribution towards that resolution. In other words, we were not obstacle”, he explained.

Finally, the member of list B, led by former FC Porto coach André Villas-Boas, expressed his desire for the results to be known as soon as possible.

“I will follow the election day here, I am a representative of List B too, standing alongside Dr. Lourenço Pinto to help in a constructive way, so that, even before midnight, Porto fans can find out the results in their homes , with peace of mind”, he revealed.

The elections for FC Porto’s governing bodies for the 2024-2028 four-year period are contested by three candidates, led by Pinto da Costa (list A), André Villas-Boas (B), former coach of the football team, and Nuno Lobo (C ), businessman and professor, also including an independent list for the Superior Council led by Miguel Brás da Cunha (D).

The election will take place until 8pm this Saturday, at Estádio do Dragão, in Porto, at a time when Pinto da Costa is serving his 15th consecutive term, since 1982, and holds the status of leader with the most titles and longevity in the world. world football.
