Marina Ruy Barbosa was called back to comment on the controversy with Walcyr Carrasco in 2012. The actress explained why she didn’t shave her hair when playing a character suffering from cancer in “Amor à Vida”. Contrary to assumptions at the time, which said that she refused to go bald, she said that the decision was made together with the author of the novel.

The matter came to light after Bella Campos stated that she would only shave her head for R$5 million, which raised comments about her work as an actress. Some internet users then recalled Marina’s case. “If they wipe Bella, they have to wipe Marina,” wrote one user on Instagram.

In response to the comment, the actress explained: “It wasn’t quite like that. At the time I was called, I was told that the character would be one of the protagonists and that we would do a big social action about Nicole’s (my character) cancer.”

Marina said that changes to the script altered the initial idea: “As a novel is an open work, everything can change. And it did. The author ended up giving priority to other stories, we wouldn’t do the social action and soon after there would be a passage of time and I would appear with a wig.”

The final decision would have been made with the soap opera team, written by Walcyr: “In view of the changes, I spoke with Globo’s management at the time and together we saw that it didn’t make sense to scrape in the face of the reality that was being presented. I believe that each case is a case, it all depends on the text, the character and the story of each one”.
