Chico Pinheiro classified as “unfortunate” both the racist audio leaked from William Waackin 2017, behind the scenes of Globo newspaper, as to Boris Casoy’s talks about street cleanersin 2009. The presenter commented on the subject on the podcast Football store.

“The mouth speaks of what the heart is full of. Where is your heart? Where is your treasure, there is your heart […] Naturally, when we talk, we talk about what we feel, right? I never had this view either with my black brothers or with the street cleaners, quite the opposite, I have enormous affection”, he commented.

Chico Pinheiro believes that journalism is a way of achieving, through information, building an awareness of society.

“I have always had and still have journalism as a privileged space for trying to build awareness of citizenship, equality, justice, so this dominates me all the time”, he said.

Remember the controversies

The leak of the racist audio culminated in the departure of William Waack from Globo, in 2017. The presenter said in the recording, published on the networks, that the noise of a horn that was bothering him was “a black thing”.

“What are you honking your horn for, you piece of shit? I’m not even going to talk because I know who it is. It’s black. It’s a black thing,” he declared.

Waack was accused of racism and did not return to the Globo news desk. He is currently at CNN Brasil, where he presents a news program.

Boris Casoy made a comment about the profession of street cleaners in Band Newspaper. On the night of December 31, 2009, two sweepers appeared in a vignette wishing them a merry Christmas.

“What shit, two garbage men wishing happiness from the top of their brooms. The lowest on the scale of work”, commented the journalist, whose audio was leaked live on the program, due to an error by the production team.

The following day, when the video already had thousands of views on the internet, Boris retracted the comment, which he defined as “an unfortunate phrase”. He was ordered to pay R$60,000 in compensation to one of the street cleaners who sued him.
