Hugo Mendeseditor and commentator of the program Red Carpet, from SIC Caras, recently recalled the loss of his brother, Nuno, when he was just 17 years old. The face of the Paço de Arcos station also spoke about what he admired most about the 27-year-old.
“It will now be 21 years on May 1st. We were going to travel with my parents and some friends to enjoy the holiday. I remember I was sleeping, it was three in the morning and there was a ring at the door. I thought I had fallen asleep and that they had already come to get us.”began by remembering in an exclusive interview with Nuno Azinheirain Nova gente magazine.
The reporter for the SIC Caras social commentary program received the fateful news from his own mother. “I heard my father going out into the street, coming back, my mother crying a lot, until she told me the news. All the hardest news of my life was told by her.”he said.
“To this day I don’t know how I overcame it, because at the time I went to therapy and my parents felt really bad. My mother suffered from severe depression. I remember she just thought she had to have strength”he added.

But it seems that, at just 17 years old, Hugo Mendes tried to always maintain his stronger side and not pass on that sadness to his parents. “Every night I cried in my room, holding onto the pillow, so my parents wouldn’t hear. I was there in my corner, thinking about it, thinking about the unfair way life had.”he revealed.
“He was everything to me, but I was also everything to him. He was the man I loved most in my entire life. He was that person who was sure that, if my parents failed me, I would have my older brother there.”he confessed.
But if there’s one thing that Hugo Mendes doesn’t forget, it’s the most inspiring side of his older brother. “He was very rebellious, but he was an example for me, because he was very handsome, intelligent, he was a light”he then remembered.
“There was also this side of my father that was very expansive and fun. But he was imposing, he was 1.90m tall, he arrived and you could feel Nuno’s presence. For me, he has always been my superhero”he completed.
