FAPESP Agency – The National Council of State Research Support Foundations (Confap) announced on Wednesday (13/03), in a ceremony held in Brasília (DF), the winners of the 3rd Confap Award for Good Practices in Promoting CT&I. Among the winners is the ILP-FAPESP Cycle of Science and Innovation, a scientific dissemination project promoted by FAPESP in partnership with the Instituto do Legislativo Paulista (ILP) of the Legislative Assembly of the State of São Paulo (Alesp).

Started in 2017, the ILP-FAPESP Cycle is a series of monthly seminars and debates on science, technology and innovation topics. The initiative has made it possible to deepen the Foundation’s relationship with Alesp and the presence of researchers from São Paulo and other Brazilian states as debaters. Until November 2023, 47 events had been held, involving the participation of almost 200 researchers and experts. The 3rd Confap Award analyzed work by state research support foundations carried out between 2022 and 2022. During this period, the ILP-FAPESP Cycle highlighted research advances related to COVID-19, such as the development of vaccines and monitoring of variants, highlighting the importance of science during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic.

The project was placed second in the “ST&I Ecosystem Development” category. In first place was “Doctoral School of the Araucária Chair: Sustainable Territorial Development – ​​Capricorn Axis”, from the Araucária Foundation to Support Scientific and Technological Development of the State of Paraná (FAPPR). And third place was “Observatory of Innovation”, from the Rio Grande do Sul State Research Support Foundation (Fapergs)

In its 3rd edition, the Confap Award for Good Practices in Promoting CT&I was awarded to six initiatives from Research Support Foundations (FAPs) in the categories “Development of the CT&I Ecosystem” and “Management and Organizational Development”. The novelty was the awarding of the award to an innovative manager and an innovative technician working in ST&I development agencies in Brazil.

On the same night, the winners of the Confap Science, Technology and Innovation Award – Johanna Döbereiner – were announced, awarded to 15 researchers whose results have contributed to the production of knowledge and directly or indirectly benefited the development and well-being of Brazilian populations. The award also recognized the work of three communication professionals who, through scientific journalism, contributed to bringing science, technology and innovation closer to society. The award includes the “Outstanding Researcher” categories, in the subcategories Life Sciences, Exact Sciences and Human Sciences; “Innovative Researcher”, in the Innovation for the Business Sector and Innovation for the Public Sector subcategories; and “Communication Professional”.

Among the recipients are three nominated by FAPESP: the professor at the University of São Paulo (USP) Lilia Katri Moritz Schwarcz came first in the “Outstanding Researcher – Human Sciences” category; José Roberto Postali Parra, also from USP, was placed second in the “Outstanding Researcher – Life Sciences” category; It is Vanderlei Salvador Bagnato (USP), was placed second in the “Innovative Researcher – Innovation for the Public Sector” category.
