The Federal University of Minas Gerais is looking for volunteers to test the second phase of the SpiN-TEC vaccine from Minas Gerais, against Covid-19. After carrying out the clinical tests, Anvisa approved the start of the next stage, when 360 volunteers are needed.

In an interview with Itatiaia, the University’s rector, Sandra Goulart Almeida, reinforced the call, highlighting the pioneering nature of Minas Gerais science. “So, we are already in the final stage and we know that this vaccine will have to be made available to the population every year. It is the only Brazilian vaccine that has reached this stage”, pointed out the dean.

In this case, men and women who meet the criteria can volunteer:

  • Age between 18 and 85 years old;
  • People with the initial doses of CoronaVac or AstraZeneca, in addition to the booster with Pfizer or AstraZeneca, for at least 6 months;
  • Not having contracted Covid-19 or having contracted the disease no more than 6 months ago;
  • Be available to participate in face-to-face follow-ups in Belo Horizonte.

People with controlled chronic diseases (such as hypertension, diabetes and others) can register. However, they will undergo a medical evaluation to check whether or not they can participate in clinical trials, as will all applicants.

  • Interested parties can register via CT-Vaccines formor you can contact us via WhatsApp at the number (31) 9 9972-0292 – or even call on the phone (31) 3401-1152.

In addition to highlighting the vaccine against Covid-19, Dean Sandra Regina commented on the University’s budget situation and highlighted the work of the National Vaccine Center, which aims to place Minas Gerais in the national vaccine production scenario.

“Last year, we had a budget restructuring that was very important. But we still need more resources. The last few years have been the worst years in the University’s history in terms of budget. UFMG, today, is 44% larger than it was before, in terms of students and expenses. And our budget was similar to 2010, before the expansion”, adds Sandra.
