City Hall starts vaccination against Influenza and continues to offer all immunizations on the routine calendar

The National Influenza Vaccination Campaign began, this Monday (18), in several health services in João Pessoa. At the three mobile points, service is exclusively for administering doses that protect against the flu. Initially, the vaccine is only intended for people who are part of priority groups. The immunizer is trivalent, updated annually and promotes protection against three types of strains of the Influenza virus (A-H1N1, A-H3N2 and B).

Retired professor Francisco José Alves, 69 years old, arrived early at one of the mobile points and took the opportunity to get the Influenza vaccine. “It is a responsibility, self-love and a commitment that I have had for many years. When the Influenza vaccination campaign starts, I leave my vaccination card separate. The same thing with the latest vaccine that protects against Covid-19. I have my doses up to date and my card is up to date. Now I know I am protected,” he stated.

Flu symptoms can range from asymptomatic infection to severe forms. The disease can be transmitted by droplets from speech, coughing or sneezing, through the air and by touching contaminated surfaces. In the most serious cases, there is generally respiratory difficulty, requiring hospitalization, which can progress to severe acute respiratory syndrome (Srag) or even death.

“At the beginning of the campaign, we reinforce the call for people who are part of priority groups to look for one of the vaccination rooms or mobile stations to guarantee this preventive care and protect themselves from the flu. Above all, it is important that the passbook is up to date. It is an opportunity to clarify any doubts with the professionals in the vaccination rooms and, if necessary, start or complete the vaccination schedule”, highlighted Fernando Virgolino, head of the Immunization Section of João Pessoa City Hall.

Priority groups – Children from 6 months to under 6 years of age (5 years, 11 months and 29 days), health workers, pregnant women, women who have recently given birth, primary and higher education teachers, indigenous peoples, elderly people aged 60 or over, homeless people, security and rescue forces professionals, Armed Forces professionals and people with chronic non-communicable diseases and other special clinical conditions, people with permanent disabilities, public road transport workers for urban and long-distance passengers, workers port workers, population deprived of liberty and employees of the deprivation of liberty system, adolescents and young people aged 12 to 21 under socio-educational measures.

Covid-19 and Influenza continue to be threats to public health, especially for unvaccinated people. Therefore, the Ministry of Health recommends taking advantage of the opportunity of the Influenza vaccination campaign to update the vaccination status for Covid-19 in eligible groups.

Documentation – It is necessary to bring, in addition to the vaccination card, supporting documents for each group. Professionals who fall within the expansion of priority groups must present an identification document with photo and proof (declaration, class council card or paycheck) of connection with the company or institution where they work. People with chronic non-communicable diseases and other special clinical conditions must present a medical report.

In 2023 – João Pessoa came in 1st place in the ranking among the capitals of the Northeast and 2nd place among the capitals of Brazil with 90.96% of Influenza vaccine doses applied to the population. This percentage represents the number of people who are part of the priority groups.

Home Vaccination – For people who are bedridden and restricted to bed, it is necessary to make an appointment by calling (83) 98645-7727. Vaccines are available at homes, from Monday to Friday, from 8 am to 4 pm.
