The FNE marks the publication of the Ordinance that establishes the allocation of vacancies for internal and external competitions for school groups and non-grouped schools and pedagogical zone staff, for the 2024/2025 school year.

It appears that there are more than 20 thousand vacancies for School/Group staff positions, a significant number, but which, in FNE’s opinion, still falls far short of the Schools’ needs.

There is also the opening of more than 7 thousand vacancies for pedagogical zone staff (QZP), more specifically 7077 vacancies, for teachers who meet the requirements to be linked, either under the so-called brake standard, or under the link dynamics.

These numbers represent an improvement when compared to previous years, FNE considers that they are not enough to respond to the real needs of Schools.

In FNE’s opinion, there is a lack of recognition of the need for more teachers to guarantee a system capable of responding to current needs, particularly in terms of ensuring the necessary resources to:

– an effective recovery of learning harmed by the interruptions to normality inherent to the COVID-19 pandemic, in the various cycles of compulsory education;

– the important influx of foreign students, coming from migration cycles;

– a reduction in the maximum number of students per class that enhances the implementation of strategies that promote success for all;

– the division of groups into practical/experimental classes in order to promote scientific and technological development capable of increasing the skills of our students in the areas of STEAM.

Every day there is an increase in the number of students without teachers, forcing schools to turn to candidates without professional qualifications.

On the other hand, all international indicators point to a need to reinforce learning and support for this same learning, which is why it is necessary to provide schools with the resources essential to fulfilling their mission and unfortunately this opening of vacancies still does not respond to these challenges.
