Economic results from SC are highlighted in a meeting of business leaders

Secretary Cleverson Siewert (Treasury) pointed out savings of around R$1 billion in expenses during the first year of governor Jorginho Mello’s administration and highlighted that there was no increase in taxes

The advances promoted by governor Jorginho Mello’s management model, the actions already implemented, the panorama of public accounts and the prospects for the coming months of 2024 gained the attention of industrial leaders from across the State this Friday, 22nd, in Florianópolis . Invited to speak at the Fiesc board meeting, secretary Cleverson Siewert (Treasury) presented data on the economic situation of Santa Catarina, highlighting the results achieved from the Fiscal Adjustment Plan (Pafisc), launched in March last year.

When detailing measures adopted to increase revenue, reduce expenses and reduce bureaucracy, Siewert pointed out that SC achieved a historic result last year: it was the first time, in at least two decades, that Executive spending fell from one year to the next. . There was a percentage reduction of 2.7% in expenses in 2023, which represents around R$1 billion in savings to Santa Catarina’s public coffers.

“Even during Covid 19, expenses grew. Despite the lockdown and the federal target of not increasing salaries for public employees, expenses did not fall during that period. Under the leadership of Governor Jorginho Mello, with the established strategy and with everyone following the With the same logic, we managed to make spending fall. These are results that deserve to be celebrated”, he pointed out.

In a message of encouragement to businesspeople, Secretary Cleverson Siewert reinforced the State Government’s willingness to count on the partnership of the productive sector. And he recalled that, contrary to the national trend, governor Jorginho Mello made the commitment and maintained his decision not to increase taxes.

“This was a milestone not only for Santa Catarina, but for Brazil as a whole. The governor wants to reduce bureaucracy, simplify and reduce the tax burden because that is how we are going to make the State evolve”, he highlighted.

In recognition of the economic results achieved, the president of Fiesc, Mario Cezar de Aguiar, congratulated the State Government for its rigorous management of public accounts. “This is a big demand from society. There is a consensus, based on reality, that a lot is spent in the Public Power and a lot is demanded from those who are producing. But, fortunately, the vision of the governor and the secretary is to save the bills and increase in investments. We have to applaud the conduct of the economy and management of the State of Santa Catarina”, he stated.

Secretary Danieli Porporatti (Governor), secretary João Paulo Gomes Vieira (Communication) and deputy secretary Lucas Amancio (Planning) were present at the meeting. Attorney General Márcio Vicari, Deputy Attorney General André Uba and the presidents of SCPar, Renato Lacerda, and Fapesc, Fábio Wagner Pinto, also participated. The Treasury’s executive consultant, Julio Cesar Marcellino Jr, followed the program.
